Choosing a Large Bedside Cot

Bedside cots, also referred as bassinets or co-sleepers are designed to let parents sleep close to their babies at night without the risk of SIDS. However, they are only suggested for use until 6 months, when your baby is required to move into a cot, or a moses basket.

Mehack Mehack, an MFM home tester, was awed by the fact that this model has an integrated bassinet that can be used all around the house. It also features the ability to rock manually. It was also simple to assemble and came in its own travel bag for easy storage.

Size

Cots are smaller than cots. They are less than. Cots can also be converted into toddler beds. However cots are generally used by children up to the age of three. There are two sizes of wooden cots, large and standard - which can be converted into a toddler bed or a cot. Selecting the larger of the two is a good option when you want your child to sleep in it until the age of +/- three.

Jasmine is an MFM mother who tested the product at home, said she liked the fact that it was a little bigger than the typical Moses basket, but not too large for her baby’s room. She says it's easy to lift her baby in and out for feeding or calming and the quality is top-notch when compared to other cots she's seen that feel flimsy.

Emily, another home tester, is awed by the flexibility of the Maxi-Cosi lora - it is a lift-off, portable bassinet. It also rocks. It also has an option for inclining the reflux and a machine-washable liner that is breathable. And it was shortlisted in the 2021 Mother&Baby awards for the best Cot, Crib or Moses Basket. The Lora fits South African cot mattress unlike other international or European brands. This means that you do not need to purchase a brand new mattress when your baby grows. Height

When choosing a crib for your bed pick one that can be adjusted to a suitable height for you. It must also be able to be dropped down out of the way to allow you to lift your baby towards you during night feedings or to soothe. Keep in mind that a bassinet or bedside sleeping device should only be used when your baby can hold his head up without assistance, which is usually around 6 months. MFM mom home tester Jasmine was awed by this feature, saying that it was easy to use and made reaching her baby easier particularly after her c-section.

Chicco Next2me Magic is another alternative. It was awarded Gold in the 2021 Mother&Baby Awards to be the Best Cot, Moses Basket or Crib. It is machine washable and comes with a interior, reflux incline, and a rocking feature. It's slightly larger than the other cribs for bed we've tried, but it folds flat in its travel bag so it's relatively compact when not in use.

Leya, MFM mum home tester also praised the bedside crib's functionality. She claimed that it was designed to be used by parents and babies. 'It has an excellent design that is very easy to manoeuvre and it is super-sturdy. Its swivelling base is fantastic because it allows you to move the bassinet from side-to-side and one of its sides can be let down to facilitate access - particularly for new mums who are recovering from C-sections', she said.

Safety

A large bedside cot's main safety feature is that it can easily be adjusted or moved so that parents can reach their baby to feed or comfort him or their diaper. This is ideal for new mothers recovering from an c-section. You should look for an option that allows you to lower the sides of the bed with a simple button press. This allows you to lift your child without having to get out of bed. This is essential, especially as your baby grows and becomes more mobile. Avoid adding anything that could increase the risk of injury or suffocation, like duvets and pillows that can cause your baby to overheat.

The NPR of the CPSC's NPR included 24 incidents that were attributed to problems with the product that included gaps between the bedside sleeper and the adult bed (12 incidents) Fabric-side enclosed openings (11 incidents) and consumer misassembly or missing components (6 incidents); and miscellaneous other product-related issues (9 incidents).

In its NPR in its NPR, the CPSC looked into the possibility of adding additional requirements for sleepers in bed, such as the requirement that they satisfy the minimum side height requirement for bassinets or at least meet the maximum height requirement for the side rail. The CPSC found, however that these requirements weren't feasible or effective in reducing amount of instances where infants are trapped by the bedside rail and an adult bed.

Many of the incidents reported in the NPR focused on multi-use bedside cot sale sleepers that can be transformed into other types of equipment, like play yards or bassinets. Several commenters suggested the CPSC include a different provision to the proposed rule for bedside sleepers with multiple uses that would permit them to meet minimum side height requirements for bassinets using a removable attachment. This attachment can be permanently attached or removed when the product is not being used as a bassinet for babies.

The CPSC is currently examining these and other comments that were received in response to its NPR on sleepers who are bedside. The Commission will take into account these comments when deciding on the final rule that is expected to come out in November 2021.
