WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost in certain statistics. Each upgrade increases the item level by +3. A random extra substat is also added to each upgrade.

The more modernized gear generally has a higher trade value regardless of whether it has low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or has a high stat variation (like eth titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the need to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader enables players to upgrade their gear to a higher item upgrade level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapon. However, the item that is used for the upgrade will remain in use for a long time and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enchantments.

The upgrader is located in all major cities and is accessible at any time to upgrade your equipment. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader at least once every couple of weeks to keep your equipment up to date.

The cost of upgrading will vary based on the current item level of the gear being upgraded, but will always be less expensive than buying new gear from other sources. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest up to 385 ilvl will cost you 20 recycle points. Buying a similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used for weapons, armor, tools and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players through NPCs who sell upgrades to item owners for various currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be used on any tool, weapon, or armor. button, which will show an image of the item at the next upgrade level in the event that the player has enough materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the slot of the Item level upgrade and the current item level. For instance weapons are more expensive than bracers, or gloves. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with some upgrades offering discounts to lower the cost of the Flightstones or crests that are used. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain amount, it can be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lower amount of both currencies.

Upgraders for items can be found in many places on the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade items coupon and a possibility of obtaining a new recipe. The discount for upgrades increases depending on the amount of items being upgraded, and can be boosted by requiring players to complete specific achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the start, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. Instead the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades require several methods, which is both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3 the upgrade system was altered a bit, with several new features added. When a player has an upgrade to a certain item level for a particular armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level will be less expensive, even in the event that they belong to an entirely different set of gear.

The discount is applicable to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also reduced and is not available until players have reached certain achievement milestones.

Crests

Players have a number of options when it comes to upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more specific, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1 and are available in four ranks.

The use of these currencies isn't that difficult, but the system will introduce a few modifications to the upgrade process. For instance, once a piece of equipment reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is intended to allow players to upgrade their equipment up to the highest ilvl possible on all their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests wisely, as they only have one use. For instance it's Best item upgrade to utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests with the best equipment you have and then save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next batch of upgrades you plan on making. This is particularly relevant for trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character which will only be able to benefit from the account-wide discount if all slots are filled with high-quality gear.
