French Door Refrigerator With Ice Maker Review

Melding form with function, French-door refrigerators offer stylish double doors that open to a spacious fridge up the top and a freezer drawer beneath. These refrigerators stand out due to their special features, such as through-the-door dispensers and higher-end Ice makers.

We contacted Ladina Schopf - an interior designer, architect, and the founder of LS Projects - for her advice on how to choose the right one. We looked at storage capacity, layout and energy efficiency among other aspects.

GE Profile Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

The name implies that GE's Profile series targets the consumer who wants to incorporate cutting-edge features into their kitchen. This fridge has them all, from a Keurig K cup coffee maker on the door to a sophisticated dispenser of water. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. Given that this fridge costs more, I'd expect better.

Other than that the fridge is a great option. It has a huge freezer compartment, which is unusual for counter-depth french door fridge on sale-door refrigerators. It also holds plenty of frozen food compared to other models.

The fridge is equipped with 17 shelves and compartments. The fridge compartment offers 18.5 cubic feet of space, which is about the same as a French door fridge costing this much. It also has a decent sized ice maker in the left door, but it isn't the largest I've seen.

The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator includes all the features you'd expect from a refrigerator in this price range. This includes Wi-Fi as well as app support, and GE's SmartHQ Software. The app, which is available for iOS and Android devices, lets you control your fridge from anywhere in the world, and it has a ton of customization options. It also alerts you when doors are left open, when your fridge or freezer needs defrosting and when it's time to change the filter.

It would be nice if the GE PYE22PYNFS came with Precise Fill, an option available in a few other GE fridges that allow you to preset how many cups of water you'd like to disperse at once. The fridge shows a countdown to show you how much water is left, but it's not as useful as Precise Fill.

Bosch Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

Created to appear as a seamless element of your kitchen Bosch's french door fridge slim-door refrigerator looks seamless and is one of a kind. The fridge uses fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, which is a great feature for busy households. It also features a veggie compartment which keeps vegetables and fruits fresher for longer, and two compressors to preserve food. The ice maker we tested was one of the most efficient and produces an ice pyramid with only a little water. This fridge is the perfect option for households with a single member or kitchenettes looking for a built-in look and top of the line food preservation.

This fridge was the top-rated refrigerator in our Refrigerators test for several reasons. Its freezer temperatures remained constant at just above 0°F and never changed by more than a fraction, this is crucial to prevent freezing burn. The refrigerator section of the refrigerator also did well. It reached the initial temperature set within an hour and remained at the temperature throughout our testing.

Bosch is a household name known for its high-end appliances. Therefore, it's no surprise that the Bosch counter depth refrigerator can be connected to your home Wi Fi and Bosch's platform Home Connect. The app lets you monitor and control the refrigerator remotely using your tablet or smartphone. The fridge is expensive, but offers great features and functionality at a fair price.

While the fridge is an amazing appliance but it's important to be aware of the limitations. You might need to be inventive with tall items since the fridge is limited in shelf space. LG Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

The LG LRFLC2706S is a great counter-depth refrigerator that packs plenty of storage space into an extremely compact frame. It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. The fridge features the standard French door design, and two rows of shelving with spill-capture and a set crisper drawers. The top shelf to the right can be folded down to make space for taller items. You'll also find a full width drawer for deli items and an internal water dispenser.

The refrigerator comes with an ice maker making it simple to transfer frozen ice whenever you need it. The freezer also comes with innovative design features such as sliding drawers that allow you to organize your belongings. It also comes with a large bin that holds plenty of frozen food items as well as an additional storage bin for ice.

Smart InstaView panel is another awesome feature of the refrigerator. You can manage the temperature, lighting and other aspects of your refrigerator from your smartphone. It's a great way to control and monitor your refrigerator, particularly if you're away from home.

The Smart InstaView feature is neat but it doesn't enhance the efficiency of the fridge. The refrigerator took longer to defrost food and chill it than the other fridges we tried. This could be due to the greater capacity.

The doors pose a problem with this refrigerator. They have handles that are sunken on the front, which allow shorter people to easily open them from the bottom, but they're difficult for taller people to guide shut without slamming them. It would have been better if they had a front-mounted handles.

The LG Counter-Depth MAX fridge is a great choice for those who want to combine the look and feel of a French-door refrigerator with an efficient design. Its capacity is above average for a counter-depth model and it cools evenly and has a good layout. It's also less expensive than the top counter-depth refrigerator that has an ice maker, which helps make it a desirable choice.

Frigidaire Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

It's a simple fridge that may not be as attractive like some of its competitors, but it still has enough features to make it a an excellent option. Its most important characteristic is the adjustable temperature drawer which helps keep food items like meat and vegetables fresher for longer. It also comes with a huge water dispenser, as well as an excellent ice maker that operates quickly.

Another great feature is the "Chill Drawer" that sits over the two crisper bins. This drawer lets you divert part of the refrigerator's cooling power directly to this area, meaning you can put away food items that need extra attention. This feature can be adjusted using a slider located outside the drawer. You can also set the general cooling settings for the entire fridge. I've found that the generic settings work better than the specific ones.

In my tests, the temperature of the refrigerator were fairly constant across the different areas of the fridge. The temperatures in the middle, top and bottom of the fridge didn't differ significantly from 38 degrees. This is a solid performance, but doesn't quite make it to the top of our ratings.

This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. The fridge can be linked with a smart thermostat to gain more precise information on the internal temperature of your fridge.

The Frigidaire FGHB2866PF's exterior is made of grey-bodied stainless steel that has a "smudge-proof" finish. It does an excellent job of removing streaks and fingerprints, even compared to glossier stainless steel finishes on other appliances I've tested.
