How to Replace an audi key fob not working G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Charles the Humble Technician teaches how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. The sensor is located at the edge of transmission just above the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via a grey wire (T55/49), then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is located on the outside of the transmission, just above the flywheel ring. The sensor transmits a signal via the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then uses this information to control the boost, fuel, and timig. It also sends an indication to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference for comparing with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft reached TDC and also the location of the camshaft so that it can activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error code. This means that the Crank Shaft is out of alignment with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate a chain stretch or a jumpy chain link in the upper chain. The code will not appear without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).

It is a little tricky to test since there are various pins on the connector, and each has its own functions. The best method for doing this is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. It should read around 1000 ohms if the sensor is operating at its maximum. Check for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you are experiencing issues with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday accelerating full speed from highway paytoll, I experienced an abrupt drop in power like the engine is out of gas or injectors are not firing any more. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning, three were soaked with gasoline and the 4th was dry. I placed a tissue over each injector hole and when i turn the engine on without sparks, the three with gazoline jump out. The 4th one stays closed. I checked the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55/30/55/48/55/14/55/48/ I got zero ohm. Therefore, i think the issue is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset PID without success. The car can start if the G28 is not plugged in and is running fine when it is connected, but still is experiencing intermittent misfires at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for the coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature of that is -49c even after unplugging it. I also noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit shows 2 bar while the actual pressure is 0.0 if i crank up the engine.

I'm not sure what to do. I believe that I've all other possibilities out. But i'm worried that I may have missed something. Please let me know should you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 gets a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style sender is identical to the G4 and both are used in the 80 100, 200, UrS and RS2 cars which is why you can easily locate one at a wrecking yard or in a local parts store. It is simple to test them: simply put your DMM into resistance mode and test the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector's end facing upwards). They should be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU in our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY ADU) engines needs to be aware of the position and speed the crankshaft to make decisions regarding timing of fuel injectors, etc. To do this, it utilizes a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If either of these sensors go bad you will get codes on the diagnostic scanner that can cause the engine to shut down.

Mazda-3D-Black.pngA failing G28 sensor can cause an inaccurate speed counter for your gearbox, a gearbox that shifts more quickly than normal, or an unfire when in gear. If you are experiencing any of these problems, it is likely that your sensor is going bad and needs replacing. They're cheap and easy to find, especially if they're an Bosch unit like ours. Alternatively, GM's version of this part is an excellent choice.

A damaged engine sensor could cause a myriad of issues in your replacement car key audi. It's an essential component of the transmission of your Audi because it relays information to the ECU about how fast or slow the car's engine is spinning. This sensor can cause the transmission to fail and other components in the car key cover audi to be affected.

The G5 engine sensor is located at the outskirts of transmission, above the flywheel ring. It transmits an electrical signal through an uncolored wire to the ECU pin T55/49. The ECU uses this signal to regulate the flow of fuel and boost and also to timigrate. It also sends it to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster. You can check for sensor failure by examining the continuity of the sensor to the tachometer. You can also examine the continuity between pins T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79]), and between pin T6a/1 as well as pin T26a/12. You should detect a resistance of approximately 1000 ohms in these areas. This is a standard component across the audi spare key cost 80, 100 200, UrS and RS2 range from 1985 MC through the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU so good ones could be available in wrecking yards.
